What is Moto-hike:Run From The Sun?

Rory started planning a trip back from China in the summer of 2004. He is running an expedition to Mongolia for work in the summer and thought riding back to the UK and doing voluntary work on the way would be an opportunity not to miss. Rory is a life-long cyclist, but pedal power just doesn't allow you to cover the mileage, so motorcycles it is!

Chris joined up in September. Wanderlust and need for a challenge had reached boiling point and this fitted the bill perfectly. He is a passionate motorcyclist.

The plan was simple. Ride from Beijing to London stopping on route to work on charity projects. Initially Rory wanted to work with orphanages to try to generate funds for new facilities and then stay for a couple of weeks and help to build them.

They contacted SOS Children's Villages UK office in 2004 after reading "Which Way Next" by Richard Meredith, having found the book while researching the route. It details Richard's overland trip from London to Korea in a Daewoo, raising money for SOS. It also gives a great insight into the charity.

SOS do wonderful work across the planet helping hundreds of thousands of children who would probably not be here without them. Read more in the SOS section of this site or on their website at www.sos-childrensvillages.org

SOS are looking to promote the World Orphan Week (WOW), which runs from 3 rd -9 th October 2005. Moto-Hike will be doing their bit visiting as many children's villages on route as possible. The challenging schedule and proposed route mean the initially planned building work is unlikely as the visits will be brief by necessity. Moto-Hike's roll will now be as a four and a half month publicity stunt for SOS!

The plan also includes riding with local bike clubs along the route, making lots of new friends and getting a taste of some of the world's most interesting cultures!

22 countries worth of new friends, customs, climates, languages, fashions, cultures, animals, plant life , football teams and beers.

If thats not a reason to go, then what is!
